Design Exchange sends members of the design community on curated, weeklong trips, empowering them to learn with—and from—their design peers around the world. The program expands viewpoints, builds relationships, and deepens connections in the global design community.
My main objective was to to bring the brand to life through the motion. I explored and prototyped web concepts that unlocked brand potential.

In developing the brand for the program, we wanted to incorporate the excitement and eclectic nature of travel. Specifically, we were influenced by flags from around the world—their colors, their patterns.
With our pattern kit and extensive color palette, we have developed unique and individualized patchworks for each trip. The two directional arrows forming an X represents bringing individuals from different backgrounds and walks of life together to learn and grow from each other.
What we arrived on aims to capture the excitement of travel and the inspiration the program brings to its travelers.
To add versatility and memorable elements to the brand’s system, the Design+ logotype was designed with modularity in mind. This allowed the letterforms to connect and stack in different compositions through out the brand experience.
To differentiate from the primary Design+ logotype, a secondary custom font was created that helped emphasize different event topics and other headlines through out the brand experiences.
The pattern we created for Design+ pulled from highlighting the plus symbol found in the name—shared similar visual traits to the deconstructed typography. This pattern gave us the opportunity to have more flexibility within the brand’s system, as either an accent or the main focal point on delightful touch points.
We're exploring ways to animate patterns that will then impact the overall feel of the brand. From a technical standpoint, it was quite a challenge to deal with these many shapes and masks, and to ensure that the animation kept looping, but the end result was worth it.
The logo animation starts with a square pixel and then morphs into a complete symbol.
Using established visual principles, we created an interesting web page layout that revealed greater brand potential.
